5 Qualities to Look for in a Brand Photographer
5 QUALITIES TO LOOK FOR IN A BRAND PHOTOGRAPHER

Brand Photography is a necessary element of your marketing strategy. You must be able to offer your audience visuals to both accompany your storytelling and to connect with them face-to-face.
Someone who Speaks your Language
Read through the photographer’s copy. Are they directly speaking to your pain points and providing a clear explanation of how they can give you the transformation you’re looking for? Do you resonate with their story and feel that you have things in common, whether it’s personal or professional? These are the things you’ll need to read for to make your decision.
Someone with Experience Photographing Branding and Content.
Brand Photography is its own beast. It’s a marriage of commercial, editorial, and portrait so the photographer needs to have experience providing this service in order to execute these photos. Brand Photography requires the skill of marketing strategy. The photos need to look professional, have negative space to add text, and provide you with a variety of photos in bulk so that you can have plenty of options in order to mix it up, yet stay consistent to your brand.
Your Photographer has to be a Great Storyteller
Look through the photographer’s portfolio. Do the images clearly tell the individual stories of each of their subjects? Do you feel curious about the person in each photo? Is there a unique sense of personality and style that comes through in each of their client’s photographs?
They Understand Where you’re at and Where you Want to be
Stay away from folks who are trying to sell you on working with them before understanding if they are the best person for the job. Look for someone who is consultative and helpful, and can be a great partner in the long run because brand photos are rarely a one-time engagement.
Your Aesthetic Sense is Aligned
There are so many talented photographers out there, but when you’re analysing someone’s portfolio, you have to have an aesthetic sense that is aligned. First, you need to know your own style and what you’re trying to convey. Do you want your brand to be more high-end/luxury, funky and colourful, or modest and approachable. Find a photographer that matches that style with their work and you’ll have a lot less kinks to work through.
5.Someone you Get on Well With
You’re allowing someone to come into your space, learn about your hopes and dreams, and help you elevate your brand presence and tell your story. It’s critical that you feel a genuine connection and the freedom to be yourself during a brand shoot. You want the shoot to be fun, relaxed and you need to be able to have a bit of a laugh with your photographer.
